Sky Burial is the other dark audio experimental project of one Michael Page who a few months ago released a new album with his main project Fire in the Head. Where Fire in the Head is mostly noise/power electronics/ambient music, Sky Burial leaves the noisy tendencies behind in favor of just a dark ambient sound. Using treated field recordings made in temples and caves in Laos plus the usual synthetics found in ambient music, ‘Spectrehorse’ is one really ominous creation.

While Michael describes his project as a droning ambient sound I think it’s a bit more than that. The songs have a bit more going on then most other experimental ambient projects out there, with odd unexplainable sounds in the background, minimal percussion sounds, absolutely menacing ambiance and for the most part a bit more active climatic feelings present.

All things considered Spectrehorse is another excellent ambient release in 2006 and as such is definitely recommended for the ambient enthusiasts out there.
